Epidemiological Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Update as of April 2, 2015.
Key Findings
Flu activity among SOS Médecins associations in the region is low. In week 13, the number of diagnoses of influenza or influenza-like illness (58 for SOS Médecins Strasbourg and 31 for SOS Médecins Mulhouse) accounted for less than 5% of the total diagnoses for each association.
There has been a very significant decrease in reports of severe influenza cases hospitalized in intensive care (2 cases in week 12, 1 case in weeks 13 and 14). The total number is 58 cases, including 8 deaths. Only 2 cases remain hospitalized. Since surveillance ended in week 11, it is discontinued today.
The downward trend in all-cause mortality observed 15 days ago is confirmed.
A decrease in bronchiolitis activity is observed for both associations; the proportion of these diagnoses is comparable to what is typically observed in previous years at the same time. During this winter season, bronchiolitis activity peaked in week 52 for both associations, accounting for 14% of diagnoses in children under 2 years of age for the SOS Médecins association in Strasbourg (43 diagnoses) and 11% of diagnoses for the SOS Médecins association in Mulhouse (22 diagnoses).
The number of diagnoses of acute gastroenteritis and diarrhea remained stable, accounting for approximately 10% of the total number of diagnoses made by each association in week 13.
The number of allergy diagnoses is low, accounting for less than 2% of the total number of diagnoses across all age groups for each association.
Activity for asthma is rather low: 8 diagnoses made by the Strasbourg association and 9 by the Mulhouse association. It accounts for less than 2% of the total number.
