• This proportion was significantly higher among men and in the highest income brackets.

Emergency room visits directly related to alcohol

• In 2023, 14,258 emergency room visits directly related to alcohol were recorded, compared to 14,979 in 2017.

• The proportion of emergency room visits directly related to alcohol, however, was decreasing, particularly in light of the increase in emergency room visits for all causes since 2021.

• The year 2020, which was atypical due to the COVID-19 pandemic, saw a lower number of visits.

• The departments with the highest rates of emergency room visits directly related to alcohol were Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, and Marne for men; and Meurthe-et-Moselle, Bas-Rhin, and Haut-Rhin for women.
