Surveillance of Occupational Diseases in the Centre-Val de Loire Region: Results for the First Half of 2017 and 2018
Occupational diseases (OD) encompass all illnesses that any physician—particularly occupational physicians—deem, based on their expertise, to be related to work and that are not covered by the Social Security system. In response to public health challenges linked to the underreporting of occupational diseases, Santé publique France, in collaboration with the Medical Labor Inspection (IMT) of the Ministry of Labor, has established a system for health monitoring and epidemiological surveillance of occupational diseases. This program, launched in 2003, covers 9 French regions as of 2018 (Figure 1). In the Centre-Val de Loire region, it has been jointly conducted since 2008 by Santé publique France, the IMT of the Regional Directorate for Enterprises, Competition, Consumer Affairs, Labor, and Employment (Direccte) Centre-Val de Loire, and the Regional Health Observatory (ORS) of Centre-Val de Loire. This brochure focuses on the analysis of data from the four two-week periods conducted in 2017 and 2018. The decision to combine data from two years was made in consultation with Santé publique France, primarily because the sample sizes were insufficient to conduct analyses based on a single year.
