Reportable Diseases in the Centre-Val de Loire Region in 2023
Key Points
In France, 38 notifiable diseases (NDs) are subject to surveillance necessary for the implementation and evaluation of public health policy. At the regional level, the Regional Health Agency is responsible for managing reports, and the regional unit of Santé publique France provides real-time monitoring of these diseases to characterize their epidemiological trends and offer its expertise for complex investigations.
This bulletin focuses on the MDOs reported in the Centre-Val de Loire region in 2023, with five of them analyzed in detail:
invasive meningococcal infections;
listeriosis;
hepatitis A;
orthopoxviruses (including Mpox);
outbreaks of foodborne illness.
In the region, 2023 marked a resurgence in surveillance, with no fewer than 673 reports (excluding COVID-19) submitted to the ARS—the highest figure since 2010. Notable trends observed that year included:
an increase in several conditions, including invasive meningococcal infections (17 cases, mostly serogroups Y and B), outbreaks of foodborne illness (60 episodes), Legionnaires’ disease (74 cases), and dengue fever (86 imported cases, mostly from the Caribbean);
a cluster of Mpox cases in Touraine, with 19 cases identified between January and March 2023. This was the only large-scale outbreak identified in France this year;
seven cases of measles, including a cluster of three cases in the Indre department.
