Public Health Bulletin on HIV and STIs in the Centre-Val de Loire region. December 2021.

Key points

HIV/AIDS

  • Participation in the LaboVIH survey and the accurate reporting of new HIV diagnoses via e-DO by clinicians and laboratory professionals are essential for the production of reliable surveillance indicators. In 2020, due to the health crisis, this was not the case in all regions. In the Centre-Val de Loire region, participation in the LaboVIH survey has increased in recent years (84% in 2020 compared to 72% in 2019 and 59% in 2018).

  • With 154,725 HIV serology tests performed, the Centre-Val de Loire region had one of the lowest rates among France’s various regions. Testing activity has been gradually increasing since 2011 but declined in 2020 (-5%), due to a significant drop in testing during the first lockdown in the spring of 2020.

  • In Centre-Val de Loire, the proportion of positive HIV serology tests was estimated at 1.4 per 1,000 tests performed, corresponding to an estimated 213 new HIV diagnoses [95% CI = 167–259]. A decline was observed between 2019 and 2020 (-60%).

STI Testing

  • In 2020, regardless of the STI, a decline in the screening rate (for both men and women) was observed in the Centre-Val de Loire region as well as at the national level.

  • Syphilis: 73,096 tests were recorded in 2020 in the region, representing a screening rate of 34.6 per 1,000 residents aged 15 and older; the rate was higher among women and slightly lower compared to 2019 (-9%).

  • Gonococcal infections: 62,694 tests were recorded in 2020 in the region, representing a screening rate of 29.6 per 1,000 residents aged 15 and older; the rate was higher among women and slightly lower compared to 2019 (-6%).

  • Chlamydia trachomatis infections: 67,056 screenings were recorded in 2020 in the region, representing a screening rate of 31.7 per 1,000 residents aged 15 and older, a higher rate among women and a slight decrease compared to 2019 (-7%).

CeGIDD Activity Data

  • In the Centre-Val de Loire region in 2020, the majority of consultations at CEGIDDs involved men (59.5%). Off-site consultations accounted for 2.0% of all consultations, and 33.0% of consultations at CEGIDDs were anonymous.
