Public Health Bulletin on Arboviruses in the Centre-Val de Loire Region. June 2023.

Key Points

  • As of December 31, 2022, 30 municipalities in the region were infested with the tiger mosquito, representing 23% of the resident population potentially at risk.

  • Between 2013 and 2022, 98 cases of arbovirus diseases among residents of the Centre-Val de Loire region were reported: 14 cases of chikungunya, 57 cases of dengue, and 27 cases of Zika.

    • All cases were imported, with most linked to arbovirus outbreaks in the Caribbean in 2014 (chikungunya), 2016 (Zika), and 2020 (dengue).

    • The majority of cases were reported in the Loiret and Indre-et-Loire departments.

    • Two-thirds of the cases were reported during the enhanced surveillance period, from May to November (between 2020 and 2022), with a peak in the number of cases occurring in August.

  • The median reporting delay is estimated at 14 days during the enhanced surveillance period; this hinders the implementation of rapid and appropriate measures and necessitates efforts to identify cases more quickly.
