Physical Activity, Sedentary Lifestyles, and Obesity in the Centre-Val de Loire Region. Results from the 2021 Public Health France Health Barometer.
Key Points
Physical Activity
Fewer than 3 in 10 people report doing muscle-strengthening activities weekly. This practice is more common among men than women and declines with age.
More than 6 in 10 people report a level of physical activity that meets WHO recommendations, with men more active than women. Men with the highest incomes are more physically active than other men; the opposite is true for women. People with a college degree engage in more physical activity.
Only 23% of the population is aware of the health recommendations regarding physical activity.
Sedentary Lifestyle
More than one in five people spend more than 7 hours a day sitting.
Nearly 40% of adults—and notably more than half of those aged 18–30—spend more than 3 hours a day in front of a screen for recreational purposes. This behavior is more common among men with moderate incomes and women with low incomes.
The vast majority of people take at least a few steps every 2 hours, as recommended.
Overweight and Obesity
Nearly half of the regional population is overweight or obese.
The proportion of overweight people is higher among men than among women, but the prevalence of obesity is the same for both sexes (14%).
Obesity is more common among those aged 61–75, among people with only a high school diploma, and among those with low incomes.
