Cardiovascular and Neurological Diseases in the Centre-Val de Loire Region. Bulletin of June 30, 2025.
Key points
Ischemic heart disease
Between 2021 and 2023, the age-standardized incidence of hospitalizations for ischemic heart disease in the Centre-Val de Loire region (450 per 100,000 inhabitants) was comparable to the national average (459). Approximately 9,921 patients were hospitalized each year in the region. In 2022, the standardized prevalence reached 5.8% (vs. 5.5% in France), and the standardized mortality rate between 2020 and 2022 was slightly higher than the national level (67 vs. 61 per 100,000 inhabitants).
Heart Failure
Over the same period, the standardized incidence of hospitalizations for heart failure was close to that observed at the national level (341 vs. 344 per 100,000 inhabitants), with an average of 7,860 annual hospitalizations in the region. The standardized prevalence was 2.7% in 2022 (vs. 2.5% in France) and the standardized mortality rate was similar (50 vs. 46 per 100,000 inhabitants).
Stroke
The standardized incidence of hospitalizations for stroke was lower than the national average (207 vs. 231 per 100,000 inhabitants), with approximately 4,626 hospitalizations per year in the Centre-Val de Loire region. In 2022, the standardized prevalence was 1.9% (vs. 2.0% in France), and the standardized mortality rate was comparable (60 per 100,000 inhabitants).
Regional Geographic Disparities
At the subregional level, certain departments had higher incidence rates depending on the condition: Loiret and Indre for ischemic heart disease, Eure-et-Loir and Cher for heart failure, and Cher, Indre, and Eure-et-Loir for strokes. Mortality rates were higher than the regional averages for all three conditions in Cher and Indre. Variations were also observed within the departments themselves.
