Acute respiratory infections (influenza, bronchiolitis, COVID-19) in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Summary of the 2024–2025 season.

Acute Respiratory Infections

  • The proportion of activity related to acute respiratory infections (ARI) in hospital emergency departments reached 5%, one of the highest levels in the past six seasons.

  • In community practice, the intensity of the outbreak was comparable to that observed in the previous season.

  • In nursing homes in the region, a similar number of COVID-19 and influenza cases were reported.

Influenza, influenza-like illness

  • In hospital emergency departments, two epidemic peaks were observed.

    • The second peak mainly affected children under 15 years of age.

    • The number and proportion of visits for influenza were the highest in the past six seasons, as was the proportion of hospitalizations for this reason.

  • In community practice, the flu epidemic was also particularly pronounced.

  • Vaccination coverage remained stable compared to the previous season, but remains well below the recommended 75% threshold.

Bronchiolitis (< 2 years)

  • Activity in hospital emergency departments and at SOS Médecins was lower this season than in the previous two.

  • The vast majority of severe bronchiolitis cases admitted to intensive care were under 1 year of age, and half of them had received treatment with Beyfortus®.

COVID-19

  • COVID-19-related activity in hospital emergency departments and at SOS Médecins remained low and stable throughout the season.

  • Vaccination coverage was 69% among residents in nursing homes and 6% among staff working in these facilities.
