Vaccination in Brittany. Public Health Bulletin, April 2023.

Key Points

  • Among infants born in 2018 or later who are subject to the expanded vaccination mandate, vaccination coverage rates are high:

    • 94% for the vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae type b, and hepatitis B at 21 months of age

    • 94% for the pneumococcal vaccine at 21 months of age

    • 94% for the meningococcal C vaccine at 21 months

    • 88% for the second dose of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine at 33 months of age

  • Vaccination coverage of at least one dose at 8 months against meningococcal B is 55% (2022 cohort), for this vaccination recommended since June 2022.

  • Increase in vaccination coverage among children and adolescents not subject to mandatory vaccination:

    • For the meningococcal C vaccine for children over 2 years of age: an increase of 1 to 4 percentage points in vaccination coverage between 2021 and 2022 for catch-up vaccination across all age groups

    • For the HPV vaccine in 15-year-old girls: a 5- to 8-point increase between 2021 and 2022 in vaccination coverage for the first dose of the HPV vaccine. The 60% vaccination coverage, although the highest in France, is insufficient to interrupt the circulation of the virus.

  • Increase in vaccination uptake overall in the general population since 2016, reaching 86.3% in 2021.

  • Low vaccination coverage against HPV infections among young boys (17% for the first dose at age 15, 11% for the second dose at age 16) for this vaccine introduced in 2021.

  • Insufficient influenza vaccination coverage among people with risk factors for influenza (compared to the 75% target).
