Influenza and influenza-like illnessEpidemic activity. Stable number of SOS Médecins consultations and a sharp increase in emergency room visits (+69%). Activity remains higher than in previous seasons during the same period for each source. High activity in primary care: incidence rate of influenza-like illness estimated at 276 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [169, 383], unconsolidated Sentinelles data).Slight resurgence of type A virus circulation at the Brest University Hospital (positivity rate = 14% out of 119 samples).
Severe cases of influenzaSince week 44/2016, 51 severe cases of influenza have been admitted to intensive care in Brittany. Fifty were infected with a type A virus and one with a type B virus. The average age was 66 years. Forty-six patients had at least one risk factor targeted by vaccination.
Acute Respiratory Infections in Nursing HomesSince September 1, 2016, 108 outbreaks of acute respiratory infections in nursing homes have been reported.
Gastroenteritis: Epidemic activity. Very slight decrease in visits to community emergency rooms, accounting for 8% of consultations. Increase in visits to hospital emergency rooms, mainly observed among children under 5 years of age (+30%). Activity remains slightly above seasonal averages in both sources. High activity in primary care: incidence rate of acute diarrhea estimated at 209 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [123, 295], unconsolidated Sentinelles data).Viral circulation of Norovirus and Rotavirus, detected in enteric specimens analyzed at the Virology Laboratory of the Brest University Hospital. No viral circulation of Adenovirus.
Mortality: In weeks 02 and 03, the number of deaths across all age groups exceeded thresholds: in week 02, excess deaths of approximately 19% (subject to data consolidation; data are not yet complete).
Bronchiolitis (children under 2 years of age)Epidemic activity (peak in week 51). Decrease in SOS Médecins consultations (-19%) and increase in emergency department visits (+14%). Viral circulation is declining according to data from the Virology Laboratory at the Brest University Hospital (positivity rate = 11% out of 118 samples).
