Key Points

Asthma

  • High volume of pediatric emergency room visits. Increase in SOS Médecins consultations among children under 15.

  • Oscour®: stable use of emergency departments with 175 visits in S42, all ages combined. Children under 15 account for 62% of cases (compared to 70% in S41). Asthma accounts for 3.3% of emergency department visits in this age group.

  • SOS Médecins: The number of SOS Médecins consultations for asthma remained stable in S42 with 53 consultations (compared to 50 in S41). Children under 15 accounted for 51% of cases (compared to 28% in S41).

Bronchiolitis

  • Oscour®: slight increase in the number of emergency room visits for bronchiolitis compared to the previous week (114 in Week 42 vs. 101 in Week 41). In Week 42, bronchiolitis accounted for 14.2% of emergency department visits for children under 2 years of age (compared to 12.8% in Week 41), and 42.0% of these visits resulted in hospitalization (compared to 45.5% in Week 41). This is the second most common condition in this age group.

  • SOS Médecins: Stabilization of SOS Médecins consultations. This condition accounts for 7.4% of diagnoses in children under 2 years of age.

COVID-19

  • Low activity, decline in incidence rate, and decrease in data from hospital and community emergency departments.

  • Oscour®: Decrease in the number of visits compared to the previous week (146 visits in Week 42 versus 174 in Week 41); 59% of these visits resulted in hospitalization. Suspected COVID-19 cases account for less than 1% of emergency department activity across all age groups.

  • SOS Médecins: a decrease in the number of SOS Médecins consultations compared to the previous week (117 consultations in Week 42 versus 177 in Week 41). Across all age groups, suspected COVID-19 cases accounted for 2.8% of SOS Médecins activity in Week 42 (versus 4.4% in Week 41).

Influenza

  • Non-epidemic activity. Activity remains low. No detection of influenza A or B viruses according to data from the virology laboratory at Brest University Hospital (no data available for Rennes University Hospital).

  • Oscour®: indicators showing low activity related to influenza and influenza-like illnesses. This condition accounts for less than 1% of diagnoses across all age groups.

  • SOS Médecins: decrease in the number of consultations for influenza and influenza-like illnesses, with 123 consultations (compared to 142 in S41), representing 3.0% of total activity.
