National Survey on the Prevalence of Healthcare-Associated Infections in Healthcare Facilities, France, May–June 2012 In May–June 2012, the national survey on the prevalence of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) included 1,938 healthcare facilities and 300,330 patients; 15,180 patients (5.1%) had one or more active HIs. Among short-stay patients, these prevalence rates were 5.6% and 25.0%, respectively. The prevalence of infected patients and the prevalence of HIs also varied by inter-region (CClin) or region. In the Eastern sub-region, the prevalence of NI was the highest in France at 6.1%. The prevalence was 5.9% in Burgundy and 6.2% in Franche-Comté. These figures may reflect regional characteristics, but they should be interpreted with caution because they are linked to the types of healthcare facilities or patients present in each region: for example, in Burgundy and Franche-Comté, the proportion of people aged 65 and older included in the study was particularly high (>60%).
