Public Health Bulletin on Tuberculosis in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. September 2019.

Tuberculosis in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, 2010–2017

  • Over the 2010–2017 period, the reported incidence rate remained stable (average rate of 5.8 cases per 105 inhabitants) and below the national average.

  • The majority of cases were among individuals born abroad, and this proportion increased over the 2010–2017 period; the highest reported rates were found among people who had arrived in France less than two years prior and among those born in sub-Saharan Africa.

  • A notable but not statistically significant increase in the reporting rate was observed in 2017 (6.6 cases per 105 inhabitants), placing the ARA region in second place among metropolitan regions with the highest rates, after Île-de-France.

  • The increase in the number of cases in 2017 affected those born in France (+37%) more than those born abroad (+7%), whose share declined in 2017.

  • During this same period, more than 70% of tuberculosis cases involved pulmonary tuberculosis, whether or not associated with other forms of the disease.

  • Significant disparities exist between departments, with the highest reported rates in the Rhône and Isère departments and the lowest in the departments of the former Auvergne region, as well as in the Drôme and Ardèche departments.
