Public Health Bulletin on HIV and STIs in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. December 2021.

Key points

HIV/AIDS

  • Decline in participation in the LaboVIH survey in 2020 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes as well as nationally, due to the health crisis. Participation in LaboVIH and the accurate reporting of new HIV diagnoses via e-DO by clinicians and laboratory professionals are essential for the production of reliable surveillance indicators.

  • Decrease in HIV testing in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in 2020 (serology tests, rapid diagnostic tests, sales of HIV self-tests), particularly during the first lockdown in spring 2020.

  • Decrease in the number of new HIV diagnoses between 2017 and 2020: a rate of 39 per million inhabitants in 2020, close to the rate in metropolitan France excluding the Île-de-France region. In 2020, there was an increase in the proportion of men, those over 50, infections among MSM born in France, and people diagnosed at an advanced stage.

  • The number of AIDS diagnoses remained generally stable, estimated at 10 per million inhabitants in 2020.

  • Good use of e-DO in the region, especially by clinicians, but some laboratory components are still missing.

Screening for bacterial STIs (SNDS)

  • Decrease in the number of people tested in private laboratories for gonococcal infections, syphilis, and Chlamydia trachomatis infections in 2020, both in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and nationally. The majority of people tested for these three STIs are women.

  • Decrease in the number of Chlamydia trachomatis infection diagnoses in 2020, both in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and nationwide.
