Situation Analysis

All epidemiological surveillance indicators for dengue fever in Martinique point to the epidemic continuing. It has now been ongoing for 25 weeks. The peak of the epidemic was reached around mid-September. Over the past four weeks, all indicators show that the general downward trend observed during the previous period has slowed, and the expected maximum values are still being exceeded. No unusual severity of this epidemic has been observed to date. The predominance of DENV-2, observed since early 2013, continues. This serotype was responsible for the 2007 epidemic. The situation corresponds to Phase 4, Level 1 of the Dengue Alert System (confirmed epidemic). Given the epidemiological situation, it is important to reiterate the importance of eliminating larval breeding sites and taking personal precautions against mosquitoes. In the event of sudden onset of fever, it is recommended to consult your primary care physician. To prevent the spread of chikungunya, this is particularly important for individuals exhibiting one or more symptoms suggestive of dengue accompanied by joint pain.
