Our regional activities at Santé publique France are led by the Regional Directorate, which comprises 16 regional units (12 in mainland France and 4 in the overseas territories).

In each region, we pursue three strategic objectives:

• generating knowledge and advice useful for public policy and making them available;

• make this knowledge available and support the prevention policies of the Regional Health Agencies (ARS);

• rely on and interact with partnerships to strengthen knowledge.

Generating knowledge and advice useful for public policy and making them available means:

• making data produced by Santé publique France available to characterize the health status of the population and its determinants at the regional level;

• conducting ad hoc studies and developing regional analyses of major surveys to improve knowledge about the population’s health status and its determinants;

• prioritizing and evolving regionalized surveillance systems by expanding geographic coverage and simplifying existing systems.

Making knowledge available and supporting ARS prevention policies means:

• organizing support for local health policies and participating in the evaluation of public health interventions;

• providing knowledge to support public action in emergency situations during events posing a health risk;

• strengthening a network of professionals within the regional units of Santé publique France capable of ensuring a response to health crises.

Relying on and interacting with appropriate partnerships means:

• developing collaboration in each region with the ARS and regional partners to coordinate the production and analysis of health indicators in the local context;

• developing collaborations with research teams to draw on well-identified local knowledge and foster innovation;

• initiating a network of partners outside the health sector to integrate health into all policies and increase Santé publique France’s visibility in the regions;

• organize biennial “Regional Public Health Meetings” with the ARS.
