- The proportion of women aged 35 or older at childbirth remains low, reaching 18.6% in 2024. Conversely, in 2024, “teenage” pregnancies (<20 years old) remained significantly higher than the national average (10.7% in 2024 vs. 1.8%).
- The number of recipients of the Complémentaire santé solidaire (C2S) health insurance program has been increasing since 2023 and, in 2024, accounted for 5.0% of women who gave birth in Mayotte.
- The prevalence of women who were overweight before pregnancy (56.1% in 2021) and those with pre-existing diabetes (1.09% in 2024) is on the rise in Mayotte, as it is throughout France.
- The proportion of women who smoked one year before pregnancy (2.4%) and during the third trimester of pregnancy (1.3%) remains very low compared to the figures observed across France in 2021.
- In 2021, 95.4% of women attempted to breastfeed their babies, and 94.6% were able to establish mixed or exclusive breastfeeding while in the maternity ward.
- In 2021, 42.7% of newborns were hospitalized or transferred at birth, a rate four times higher than that for France as a whole (11.5%).
- The maternal mortality rate reached 30.9 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2024, more than twice the rate observed for France as a whole (11.1 deaths per 100,000 live births).
- The infant mortality rate of 10.55 deaths per 1,000 live births (10.55‰) was more than twice that observed in France as a whole (4.08‰).
