Heat Wave and Health in Île-de-France: Bulletin, June 23, 2026.
Key Points
- Amid this heat wave, Météo-France has issued the following classification: Since June 17, 2026, all departments in the Île-de-France region (Paris, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Val-d’Oise) have been placed under a yellow heat wave alert. As of June 18, 2026, all eight departments were upgraded to an orange heat wave alert. On June 20, 2026, Météo France announced that all departments in the region would be placed under a red heat wave alert starting at 12:00 p.m. on June 21, 2026.
- A regional analysis of emergency care utilization shows an increase in the number of visits and in the proportion of hospitalizations following emergency room visits for the composite health indicator iCanicule (which includes hyperthermia, dehydration, and hyponatremia).
- A regional analysis of SOS Médecins consultations also indicates an increase in the composite health indicator iCanicule (heatstroke, dehydration) throughout the entire episode. There was also an increase in SOS Médecins procedures (no data available for Val-d’Oise) for all causes during the same period.
- This trend falls within the expected fluctuations for the current weather conditions and is observable across the region as a whole.
