Following an investigation conducted by Belgian health authorities, in collaboration with their European counterparts—particularly those in France—Ferrero has today issued a recall for several products in the Kinder line.

Following investigations conducted by Belgian health authorities, in collaboration with their European counterparts—particularly those in France—Ferrero has today issued a recall for several products in the Kinder range:

  • Kinder Surprise 20g (packages of one, three, four, and six) and 100g with expiration dates ranging from late June 2022 to late October 2022.

  • Kinder Schoko-Bons with expiration dates ranging from late April to late August 2022.

  • Kinder Mini Eggs with expiration dates between late April and late August.

  • Kinder Happy Moments, Kinder Mix: 193g, Basket 150g, Plush Toy 133g, Bucket 198g, with expiration dates through the end of August 2022.

These recalls follow an outbreak of salmonellosis in several European countries. French health authorities were informed by the National Reference Center for Salmonella at the Pasteur Institute of 21 cases of salmonellosis occurring across France. Eight of these individuals were hospitalized and have all returned home.

The median age of the cases is 4 years. In France, investigations conducted by Santé Publique France have revealed that the 15 patients who have been interviewed so far consumed certain Kinder-brand products subject to this recall in the days leading up to the onset of symptoms. These products are all manufactured at the same plant in Arlon, Belgium.

These cases of salmonellosis share the same genetic strain as the strain responsible for an outbreak in the United Kingdom and Ireland, linked to the consumption of certain Kinder products subject to this recall.

People in possession of these products are asked not to consume them and to discard them immediately. Consumers should take a photo of the packaging showing the product details (Best Before date, barcode number) and call the phone number provided by the company to obtain a refund (0800653653) or contact the company at the following address: contact.fr@ferrero.com:

Foodborne illnesses caused by Salmonella result in gastrointestinal symptoms, often accompanied by fever, within 48 hours of consuming contaminated products. These symptoms may be more severe in young children, immunocompromised individuals, pregnant women, and the elderly. Anyone who has consumed the products mentioned above and is experiencing these symptoms is advised to consult their primary care physician immediately and inform them of this consumption. Furthermore, to limit person-to-person transmission (particularly in households with young children), it is recommended to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after using the restroom, after changing a child, and before cooking.
