Public Health France Conference, May 30–31 and June 1, 2017

A new edition focused on individual and collective determinants of health

One year after its creation, Santé publique France, the national public health agency responsible for health monitoring, prevention, health education, and public health interventions, is organizing the “Public Health Meetings” on May 30–31 and the Reserve Meetings on June 1. The central theme of the 2017 Rencontres will be: individual and collective determinants—what levers can we use to take action? Centered on this theme, the three days of conferences, workshops, and sessions aim to facilitate the sharing of experiences in health surveillance, prevention, and intervention. Santé Publique France invites everyone to view the preliminary program for this event at www.rencontressantepubliquefrance.fr.

3 days of discussion and learning

Santé publique France invites all professionals involved in the health, social services, and education sectors (public health officials, institutional representatives, scientists, associations, and reservists) to the Centre Universitaire des Saints-Pères in Paris for three days of conferences and discussions. Nearly 1,000 participants are expected. Representatives from Santé publique France and external speakers, both French and international, will be on hand to address current issues and demonstrate how their expertise is applied to public policy.

May 30 and 31: Public Health Meetings on "Individual and Collective Determinants"

On May 30 and 31, two plenary sessions are scheduled on the themes: “Dialogue and Openness to Society in Public Health: Issues, Challenges, and Prospects” and “Seasonal Influenza: Can We Better Reduce Its Impact on Mortality?” "The sessions will address major topics such as: alcohol and pregnancy, breast cancer screening, the health effects of endocrine disruptors, and the impacts of exceptional situations on mental health. Finally, three workshops will facilitate knowledge-sharing in small groups; they will focus on establishing stakeholder engagement, strategies to prevent social health inequalities, and responding to local public health needs.

June 1: Health Reserve Meetings: Understanding the Model

For the past year, Santé publique France has managed the Health Reserve, which now benefits from strong interdisciplinary collaboration during exceptional situations (support for health surveillance, epidemiological expertise, deployment of coordinators and healthcare professionals, etc.). In 2016, the adaptability of Health Reserve members was demonstrated through the variety of their missions, as well as through their stronger coordination with other exceptional reinforcement mechanisms in France and abroad. This event is an opportunity for current and prospective reservists to understand how interventions are carried out within the framework of the new agency and to discuss the Health Reserve’s participation in the European Medical Corps and the WHO’s Emergency Medical Teams initiative. Through a few concrete examples of interventions, this session will shed light on the diversity of professions within the Medical Reserve, the variety of interventions handled, and the highly interdisciplinary nature of the teams, models, and response times.

Registration will open in early April at www.rencontressantepubliquefrance.fr
