Commentary. Effects of building renovation projects on teachers' health. Special Issue. Indoor Air Mold and Health

This article is a critical analysis of the following study: Patovirta RL, Meklin T, Nevalainen A, Husman T. Effects of mold remediation on school teachers' health. Int J Environ Health Res. 2004 Dec;14(6):415-27. The objective of this study is to measure the impact of renovations of unhealthy buildings (dampness and mold) on the health of their regular occupants. In this case, the study focused on three Finnish schools that underwent extensive renovations due to the presence of mold and significant moisture. The health of teachers working in these schools was assessed via questionnaire before and one year after each renovation. Fungal contamination and moisture levels in the premises were measured before and after the renovations. (Excerpt from the article).
