Compliance with the new dietary guidelines among adults aged 18 to 54 living in France: The 2014–2016 Esteban Study. Nutrition Component – Epidemiological Surveillance.
Key points: According to data collected in 2015, few adults report dietary habits that align with the new dietary guidelines: about 4 in 10 adults meet the recommendations for whole-grain and minimally processed foods. The same is true for processed meats, where only 40% of adults consume less than the recommended amount; fewer than 3 in 10 adults meet the recommendations for fruits and vegetables, dairy products, and fish (including the specific consumption of fatty fish); fewer than 2 in 10 adults meet the recommendations for unsalted nuts, legumes, consumption of added fats rich in alpha-linolenic acid, or olive oil and salt (based on the WHO recommendation). However, more than half of adults report consumption levels of non-alcoholic beverages, sugary foods, and meat that are in line with the recommendations. Men are less likely than women to meet the recommendations for whole grains and minimally processed foods, dairy products, meat, processed meats, sugary beverages, and salt.
