Pseudonymization Software

This software was developed to comply with the requirements of the law of July 1, 1998, and its implementing decrees (decrees of May 6, 1999, and May 16, 2001), which aim to protect the privacy of individuals whose personal data is transmitted to health authorities for epidemiological surveillance purposes.

This software calculates a code called an "anonymity code" for a given individual based on the following information: the initial of the last name, the full first name, the date of birth, and the gender.

Who can use it?

Use of this software is restricted to healthcare professionals involved in the surveillance of sexually transmitted infections (biologists and physicians). It may not be distributed or copied without prior authorization from Santé Publique France.

This pseudonymization software is intended:

  • biologists and physicians for reporting HIV/AIDS infections outside the e-DO system, and for reporting acute hepatitis B, for the purpose of pseudonymization at the source, i.e., before these reports are sent to Santé Publique France;
  • to physicians designated by the Director General of the ARS who transmit reporting forms for other diseases before they are sent to Santé Publique France.

The software’s features have been integrated into the e-DO application, which automatically generates the anonymization code for reported cases.

Where can the software be obtained?

This software is available upon request from Santé Publique France, specifying the desired software version (Windows, Mac, Unix-Linux).
