Measles in France from January 1 to June 30, 2026
Key Points
- Since January 1, 2026, 109 cases of measles have been reported, including 4 new cases in June. The number of cases reported during the first six months of the year remains significantly lower than that of 2025 for the same period (752 cases).
- Of these cases, 39 (36%) were hospitalized (including 2 in the ICU), and 17 cases (16%) developed complications (including 8 cases of pneumonia). No deaths were reported.
- The median age of cases is 20.6 years. The three most affected age groups are adults aged 20–24 (15%), adults aged 40 and older (15%), and adolescents aged 15–19 (14%).
- Among those targeted for vaccination (aged over one year and born since 1980), for whom vaccination status was known (n=75), 40 (53%) did not have up-to-date vaccination status, while 35 (47%) had received two doses.
- Thirty-three departments in France (33%) reported at least one case during the period. The five departments with the highest number of reported cases are: Yvelines (10%), Moselle (8%), Hauts-de-Seine (8%), Haute-Savoie (7%), and Paris (7%). No cases were reported in the overseas territories.
- During the period, 16 clusters of cases (groups of epidemiologically linked cases) were reported to the Regional Health Agencies (ARS) (provisional, unconsolidated data), totaling 69 cases. Of these, 6 clusters involved 5 or more cases. Only one outbreak is still active.
