Ebola Virus – Epidemiological Update for West Africa as of November 24, 2014.
Highlights
In Mali, where local transmission has been reported for the past two weeks in the capital, Bamako, the toll stands at 6 cases and 6 deaths. As a reminder, these cases are not epidemiologically linked to the first case reported on October 27. The Bamako district has been included in the InVS case definition.
The WHO reports a total of 15,325 cases (suspected, probable, and confirmed) and 5,450 deaths in the four affected countries in West Africa (Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Mali).
The three most affected countries (Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone) are reporting new cases distributed very unevenly across districts. Nationally, transmission remains most intense in Sierra Leone. In Liberia, the situation has been stable over the past 4 weeks following the decline observed from mid-September through mid-October. In Guinea, transmission has remained sustained for more than 2 months.
Transmission in the capitals Monrovia and Freetown remains sustained, while it is declining in Conakry.
