This framework agreement aims to enhance the effectiveness of public health initiatives by strengthening collaboration between the Institute and Santé Publique France in the following areas:

  • epidemiological surveillance, monitoring, and evaluation based on data from cancer registries;

  • understanding exposure to cancer risk factors;

  • health promotion, prevention, and health education regarding the main cancer risk factors, including environmental and occupational factors;

  • evaluation of cancer control policies;

  • innovation and development of tools in the field of cancer surveillance or prevention.

The National Cancer Institute and Santé Publique France are planning two joint prevention initiatives for 2017; one will focus on the effects of UV radiation on cancer risks, and the other on the links between alcohol consumption and cancer risks.

Norbert Ifrah, President of the Institute, and François Bourdillon, Director General of Santé publique France, are also signing an agreement regarding the Cancer Barometer. The Cancer Barometer periodically surveys the opinions, attitudes, and knowledge of the French public regarding cancer and ways to prevent its occurrence.

The initial results of this new edition of the Barometer, focusing on data regarding tobacco use and cancer, were first published in the Weekly Epidemiological Bulletin (BEH) dated October 6, 2016.
