Who are the transgender women living with HIV in France? Sociodemographic, transition, and care characteristics. Results of the ANRS-Trans&HIV survey;
This article aims to describe the sociodemographic, transition, and care characteristics of transgender women living with HIV (TWLVH) receiving hospital care in France. It also describes the migration patterns of transgender women born abroad. The data presented are from the ANRS-Trans&HIV survey, a national, cross-sectional, retrospective, and community-based study of TWFH receiving HIV care in hospital units in France. The survey was conducted between 2020 and 2022. Sociodemographic characteristics, transition status, and experiences of living with HIV were compared between transgender women of French nationality and those of foreign nationality at the time of the survey, using chi-square tests and Wilcoxon tests. Among the 506 transgender women living with HIV who participated in the survey, 11% were French by birth, 3.2% had acquired French citizenship, and 86% were foreign nationals. Among the foreign nationals, 93% were from Latin America, and 37% did not have a residence permit at the time of the survey.
