Trends in HPV Vaccination Coverage in France - 2008–2018
Introduction - This study provides an 11-year overview of HPV vaccine coverage among adolescent girls in France and examines how it has evolved in response to changes in vaccination strategy. Method - The Inter-Regime Consumption Database (DCIR) from the National Health Data System (SNDS) provides a numerator and denominator, enabling the estimation of vaccination coverage at a given age. We present trends in vaccination coverage for at least one dose at age 15 and for the full vaccination series at ages 16 and 20 between 2008 and 2018. Results - After a sharp decline between 2011 and 2015, vaccination coverage increased between 2016 and 2018, reaching 29.4% for one dose at age 15 and 23.7% for the full vaccination series at age 16. Catch-up vaccination among those aged 16 to 20 remains moderate. In line with the recommendations of the vaccination schedule, young girls are being vaccinated at an increasingly earlier age, and vaccination coverage among the youngest cohorts is higher. Vaccination coverage is generally higher in the departments of northern France. Conclusion - In 2018, despite an upward trend, HPV vaccination coverage remains very insufficient in France. Efforts already underway to improve vaccination coverage must be continued.
