Key Points
In Week 2, SARS-CoV-2 transmission remained very high, with a less pronounced increase in the number of cases and continued significant pressure on hospitals.
Mainland France:
Highest incidence rates among 10- to 19-year-olds (> 5,500 per 100,000 inhabitants) and 30- to 39-year-olds (> 4,200)
Testing rates are declining, and the positivity rate remains very high
Significant regional disparities in hospitalization rates
Overseas territories:
Very high incidence rates in Guadeloupe (>4,500) and Réunion (>3,800)
High rate of new hospitalizations in French Guiana
Contact tracing
97% of cases are contacted by the Health Insurance Agency on the day of or the day after their identification (via text message in 91% of cases)
Among the cases contacted, a decrease in the number of contacts identified per case
Variants
96% of screened tests showed a profile consistent with the Omicron variant in S02
Omicron accounted for 80% of interpretable sequences in the Flash S01 survey of January 3, 2022 (preliminary data)
Prevention
Vaccination as of January 18, 2022 (Covid Vaccine data):
78.0% of the total population had received a full primary vaccination series
61.2% of those aged 18 and older had received a booster dose (72.2% of eligible individuals) and 78.8% of those aged 65 and older (87.6% of eligible individuals)
Importance of combined measures:
Complete vaccination schedule with a booster shot as early as three months
Adherence to preventive measures, including mask-wearing and contact reduction, as well as other recommended measures such as frequent ventilation of enclosed spaces, teleworking, and participation in contact tracing
