Disability rates at the end of a worker’s career are twice as high among front-line workers [Interview]

Garbage collectors, cashiers, bakers, home health aides, janitors, drivers, food processing workers… Approximately 4.6 million private-sector employees continued to work on-site during the health crisis. These essential workers face less favorable working and employment conditions than others. They are less likely to reach retirement age while still working and in good health. Recognizing their social value by leveraging various strategies is a first step toward reducing these health inequalities in the workplace.
