Typically, the all-cause mortality rate among immigrant populations is lower than that of the host country’s population. A study has shown that in France, the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic led to a reversal of this trend, due to a much higher excess mortality rate among immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa, the Maghreb, Asia, and Oceania. These findings call for particular attention to be paid to the living conditions and access to healthcare for these populations.
