Can health education in schools help reduce social inequalities in health?
A team of researchers analyzed the international scientific literature to examine the impact of school-based health education on potential reductions in health inequalities. These researchers are cautious in their conclusions, as there is a lack of sufficiently compelling evidence due to the limited research in this field. Nevertheless, they conclude that the results “tend to show” that health education initiatives can improve students’ academic performance and health, and, if certain conditions are met, may potentially reduce inequalities.
