Since April 1998, the hospital administration has conducted a quarterly survey on treatments for chronic hepatitis C initiated in approximately 100 hospital departments with significant activity in this area. Among them, 30 are hepatitis C reference centers. In addition to establishing networks of healthcare professionals and facilities, these centers are tasked with serving as scientific authorities on diagnosis and treatment, as well as participating in the training and education of healthcare professionals. In January 1999, the Secretary of State for Health announced a national plan to combat hepatitis C, based on this networked care organization centered around hepatitis C reference centers. The objective of this survey is to analyze trends in treatments initiated for chronic hepatitis C from April 1, 1998, to June 30, 1999, in order to assess how the management of this condition has evolved in light of the recommendations issued by experts.
