Lyme disease
thematic dossier
Lyme borreliosis, or Lyme disease, is an infectious disease caused by bacteria of the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato complex, which is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected ticks.
As an employer, what should you do?
Lyme disease, also known as Lyme borreliosis, is a disease that can be transmitted by ticks through a bite. It can cause a red rash on the skin, flu-like symptoms, and even fatigue or facial paralysis, even several months after the bite.
Currently, there is no vaccine against Lyme disease for humans: the best way to protect yourself is to prevent tick bites to reduce the risk of contracting the diseases they can transmit.
Certain professions are particularly at risk of contracting Lyme disease; these include professionals who work in natural environments: loggers, foresters, forest rangers, game wardens, fish wardens, gardeners, etc.
It is important for everyone to learn how to protect themselves against Lyme disease by familiarizing themselves with personal protective measures, knowing how to respond to a tick bite, and learning to recognize the onset of its symptoms.
Resources available for download and purchase can help you raise awareness among your employees about Lyme disease prevention.
