Combat sports injuries among 10- to 18-year-olds and concussions: analysis of data from the 2016–2018 Continuous Survey on Accidents in Daily Life (EPAC). Response to the request from the Directorate General of Health (DGS) dated December 13, 2019.
In France, certain combat sports (kickboxing, Muay Thai, and other related disciplines) allow minors to participate in matches that result in "knockouts," meaning concussions. At the request of the Directorate General for Health, Santé publique France conducted an epidemiological study to describe, among children aged 10 to 18, accidents occurring during the practice of combat sports and the frequency of concussions resulting from this sporting activity. Accidents involving combat sports were described using data from the Continuous Survey on Accidents of Daily Life (EPAC) for the 2016–2018 period. This survey is based on comprehensive records of emergency department visits for accidents of daily life (AcVC) at ten hospitals in France.
