Violence and Health in France: An Overview.
This book presents the results and analysis of a survey titled "Life Events and Health (EVS)," conducted among 10,000 people aged 18 to 75 living in their own homes. This study sheds new light on the issue of violence in France by surveying both men and women about all types of violence they may have experienced (physical, sexual, psychological, property damage, etc.) and by examining the context and the health and social consequences of such violence. All forms of violence in France are examined in terms of their short-, medium-, and long-term impact on health. The authors—statisticians, sociologists, researchers in the humanities and social sciences, and public health experts—offer diverse perspectives that allow for a comprehensive exploration of the study’s various facets. Life events are examined in relation to sexuality, sleep disorders, and the use of psychoactive substances. The economic consequences of this violence are also examined.
