Social Inequality and Health Communication: The Expectations of the Working Class. Analysis and Areas for Further Consideration.

This document is divided into two parts. The first part presents general considerations on health inequalities: their reality, perceptions of health, and a discussion of the effectiveness of prevention campaigns in reducing these inequalities. The second part presents the main findings of three studies on how working-class groups relate to health communication: a qualitative survey on the expectations of working-class groups regarding communication, a study on the relationship between the most disadvantaged socio-professional groups and the media, and a survey on the cultural practices of the French population. It is organized into three sections. The first section examines perceptions and attitudes toward health, revealing a marked difference between men and women. The report then discusses the various approaches used in health communication (fear, emotional realism, empathy, the mirror effect, humor and derision) and how they are perceived by the general public. The third section addresses the relationship between different audiences and the media (television, radio, print media, cinema, billboards, and non-media tools).
