Professional Practice Exchange Group (Gepp). Assessment of its implementation in the surveillance of acute respiratory infections (ARI) and acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in nursing homes for the elderly (Ehpad)
A surveillance system for outbreaks of acute respiratory infections (ARI) and acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in nursing homes (Ehpad) was established in 2012. The organization and regional coordination of this surveillance were managed by the Cire (Regional Intervention Units). The purpose of organizing an inter-Cire Gepp (Professional Practice Exchange Group) was to pool the various experiences of different regions regarding this surveillance and to streamline resources in order to ultimately improve the surveillance system. The purpose of this report is to assess the operation and output of the Gepp, focusing on five main themes and areas of focus: the organizational aspects of surveillance; the analysis and feedback of surveillance data; the etiological investigation of acute respiratory infections (ARIs); the analysis of GEA epidemic curves; and the evaluation of surveillance. This Gepp has not only revitalized this surveillance but also enabled the pooling and harmonization of practices at the regional level. A reflection on the conditions conducive to the success of this working model allows for the proposal of an operational framework for other themes.
