Occupational exposure to free crystalline silica respirable dust among retired artisans covered by the social security scheme for the self-employed. ESPrI Program. Estimation of prevalence and lifetime duration of exposure
Tradespeople are a group of workers engaged in technical professions, often under difficult conditions and in contact with hazardous materials. However, unlike salaried employees, they do not benefit from a mechanism for recognizing occupational diseases, nor do they have access to post-occupational monitoring (Article D. 461-25 of the Social Security Code) that would allow for a medical assessment in the event of exposure to carcinogens during their working lives. The establishment of a cohort of retired artisans as part of the ESPrI program (Epidemiology and Surveillance of Self-Employed Professions), the result of a collaboration between the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS) and the Social Security Scheme for the Self-Employed (RSI), has made it possible to initiate research on occupational exposure to carcinogens in this population and on their health consequences.
