Expectations of the Regional Health Agencies (ARS) regarding epidemiological surveillance data on cancer
The objective of this survey is to strengthen Santé publique France’s national and regional strategy for the surveillance and provision of epidemiological indicators on cancer. These indicators are intended to directly contribute to the management, coordination, and evaluation of public policies regarding cancer prevention and care. A multicenter descriptive survey was conducted by the CIREs, in consultation with the Directorate of Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries at Santé publique France, involving 14 ARSs. The survey involved interviewing various ARS representatives, covering all health-related fields pertaining to cancer, including prevention, screening, environmental health, health strategies, and healthcare provision. The survey highlights the diverse expectations that ARSs have of the CIREs and, more broadly, of Santé publique France regarding access to regional and subregional data to inform and evaluate their health policies. The ARS are particularly interested in epidemiological data on cancers that can be subject to prevention or screening (e.g., lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, or breast cancer). For Santé publique France, the challenge will be to improve the utilization of epidemiological information on cancers at an appropriate temporal and geographic scale while continuing the innovative work carried out in partnership with Francim and the registries to better meet the expressed expectations. Particular attention must be paid to the dissemination of epidemiological information on cancers across the regions, to new information sources such as the electronic cancer record, and to the continuation of statistical developments.
