Cosmop Program: Monitoring of Mortality by Cause by Occupational Activity: Analysis of Mortality and Causes of Death by Economic Sector from 1976 to 2005
The primary objective of the Cosmop surveillance program is to systematically and regularly describe, at the level of the French population, the distribution of deaths by cause, according to occupational characteristics. This report provides an overview of the analysis of data from INSEE’s DADS Panel—a representative longitudinal sample of employees in France—linked to medical causes of death from Inserm’s CépiDc. The results presented illustrate the wide variety of indicators that can be generated from these sources depending on the research questions posed. These indicators provide a representative picture of the occupational situations covered by the scope of the annual social data declaration at the national level and offer supporting evidence in the event of emerging health signals within a smaller population of working-age individuals. Regular updates to this type of database and its periodic analysis will enable the study of mortality trends in relation to occupational activity over more recent periods, the detection of changes in epidemiological characteristics within the population, and the identification of high-risk situations to guide decisions regarding the implementation of preventive measures.
