Key Points
In Week 27 (June 29–July 5, 2026), following the increases observed the previous week, the number of emergency department visits declined among children under 2 years of age (-6%, or -1,244 visits) and among those aged 75 and older (-6%, or -4,422 visits). The number of hospitalizations following an emergency department visit was slightly higher than in previous years among adults, but lower among those under 15 years of age (-10%, or -867 hospitalizations) and among those 75 years of age and older (-14%, or -4,862 hospitalizations). However, the number of visits among those aged 75 and older, as well as the number of hospitalizations following a visit among adults, remained slightly higher than in previous years.
The indicators that were on the rise in Week 26 amid a heat wave are declining this week: malaise, dehydration, hyperthermia/heatstroke, isolated fever, and hyponatremia (in adults). The majority of these indicators, however, remain at levels still higher than in previous years. Visits for vomiting and gastroenteritis (among children) are also declining but remain at higher levels than in previous years.
Among the indicators showing an increase and at higher levels than in previous years are visits for:
- chest pain in adults (+7%, or +782 visits);
- skin and subcutaneous infections in children (+15%, or +177 visits).
Other indicators that are on the rise but at levels comparable to previous years include visits for:
- abdominal pain in children under 2 years of age (+33%, or +202 visits) and in adults (+11%, or +2,289 visits);
- trauma in children (+14%, or +2,670 visits) and in those aged 75 and older (+5%, or +644 visits);
- neurological symptoms in adults (+13%, or +1,068 visits);
- ENT conditions in adults (+8%, or 311 more visits);
- suicidal behavior among those aged 45 and older (+13%, or +63 visits).
