“We are dealing with students in extremely precarious circumstances”
Maryse Thibon, a social worker at the Regional Center for University and School Services in Montpellier, points out in this interview that students fortunately have good "health capital" given their young age, but she notes an undeniable rise in financial insecurity over the past ten years. So much so that some international students are malnourished due to a lack of adequate food. Together with other professionals, she provides case-by-case assistance: meal vouchers, access to benefits, health insurance, and one-time financial aid. The first thing students in financial difficulty cut back on is healthcare.
