New Horizons in Health Policy
The Director General of the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance presents his analysis of the major challenges that will shape the future of French health policy. He emphasizes the need to reconcile increasingly conflicting objectives: controlling public spending and ensuring universal access to the advances of a medical field that is becoming ever more effective but also increasingly costly. Through a critical analysis of the implications of these demands, he demonstrates how recent reforms have sought to achieve such a synthesis. By reflecting on what “health democracy” should entail, this contribution highlights the societal dimension of a field of public policy whose importance continues to grow alongside an aging population and rising public expectations in this area.
