Invasive infections caused by H. influenzae, L. monocytogenes, N. meningitidis, S. pneumoniae, S. agalactiae, and S. pyogenes in France in 2001–2002

Invasive infections—including septicemia and/or meningitis—are the leading cause of severe morbidity and mortality from bacterial infections. These conditions have been monitored since 1987 by the Epibac network, a network of hospital microbiology laboratories that voluntarily report invasive infections caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria meningitidis, Listeria monocytogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes (group A streptococcus), and Streptococcus agalactiae (group B streptococcus). The results presented cover the years 2001 and 2002. (R.A.)
