Initial Assessment of CeGIDD Activities, France, 2016
This article presents an overview of the activities, during their first year of operation, of the Free Information, Screening, and Diagnostic Centers (CeGIDD), which replaced the Anonymous and Free Screening Clinics (CDAG) and the Information, Screening, and Diagnostic Centers for Sexually Transmitted Infections (CIDDIST) in 2016. In 2016, 317 CeGIDDs (167 main sites and 150 branch offices), 72% of which were managed by hospitals, were accredited by the Regional Health Agencies (ARS). Activity reports from 274 CeGIDDs (corresponding to 156 main sites and 118 branch offices), or 86% of the total, were analyzed. At the CeGIDDs participating in the survey, a total of 739,284 consultations were conducted, of which 51% were screening or diagnostic consultations, 38% were consultations for receiving test results, 2% were consultations for sexual or blood exposure incidents (with or without post-exposure treatment), and less than 1% were pre-exposure prevention consultations (initial and follow-up visits). Among the clients served, 85% belonged to a population identified as at risk of STI exposure. The screening positivity rate was 0.41% for HIV infections, 8.0% for Chlamydia trachomatis infections, 3.0% for gonococcal infections, 1.5% for syphilis, 1.1% for hepatitis B (HBsAg), and 0.8% for hepatitis C (anti-HCV antibodies). Analysis of this first year of operation suggests that the CeGIDDs are evolving, compared to the former CDAG-CIDDISTs, toward a more comprehensive approach to sexual health as they develop their new missions. This approach must be progressively continued in terms of service organization (more opening hours, particularly on Saturdays, and staggered schedules), scaling up these new missions, and the strategy of “reaching out” to the most at-risk populations, notably through more frequent outreach activities with screening.
