Gambling patterns and practices in 2010.

[BDSP. Record generated by ORSMIP R0xs9qF9. Distribution subject to authorization]. In France, several recent public reports (Trucy, 2006; INSERM 2008) have focused on gambling. These were examined not only in terms of their economic impact but also from a public health perspective, taking into account the personal and social problems potentially caused by this activity in cases of excessive participation. However, there was a lack of quantification regarding the extent of these problems. To address this gap, public authorities commissioned the OFDT to conduct the first national prevalence survey on gambling. This survey was conducted as part of the 2010 INPES Health Barometer survey, with the objective of providing data on the number of occasional and regular gamblers, as well as estimating the size of the population affected by excessive or pathological gambling. Since this estimate pertains only to the period prior to the opening of the online gambling market (Law of May 12, 2010), it cannot be used to measure the impact of this law on the prevalence of excessive or pathological gambling.
