Prevalence of macrovascular complications and vascular risk levels among people with diabetes in France: the 2001 Entred study.
Nearly one in two people with diabetes dies from ischemic heart disease, and the risk of developing cardiovascular disease is twice as high in people with diabetes. Mortality from cardiovascular disease, however, has declined sharply among both people with diabetes and the general population, with a 50% reduction estimated over 50 years among people with diabetes in the Framingham Study. Nevertheless, vascular risk factors remain inadequately controlled among people with diabetes in the United States. The Entred study (National Representative Sample of People with Diabetes) allows for the estimation of the current prevalence of macrovascular complications and vascular risk factors reported by treated people with diabetes living in France and by their physicians.
