Effective interventions for preventing health problems related to exposure to natural ultraviolet radiation: a literature review
The purpose of this article is to provide a summary of the scientific evidence regarding effective interventions for preventing health problems associated with exposure to natural ultraviolet radiation. This summary was compiled using a specific methodology for selecting and analyzing the scientific literature and classifying the identified interventions. This study identified a large number of promising interventions. Among them are initiatives to create shaded areas in places frequented by young people; health education programs in schools or universities, often implemented by teachers and involving families or not; interventions targeting parents and encouraging them to take action to protect their children; interventions highlighting the harmful effects of UV radiation on physical appearance, the effects of which have been measured among adolescents and adults; and finally, multimodal interventions implemented in various settings and reaching multiple groups within the community. It should be noted that these results must be interpreted with caution, as the outcome measures and levels of evidence considered in the included studies are highly heterogeneous. Furthermore, the interventions are not always described in detail in the source documents: this synthesis should be viewed as a first step and requires further work to describe promising interventions and the conditions for their transferability to France.
